While visiting our colleagues from Keyvent China in Shanghai we took a chance and went to the Shanghai Fashion Week. With the help from our Chinese friends we’ve also received the allowance for taking pictures (see below).

Shanghai’s Fashion Week is growing year by year and what we liked most about it is that besides well known fashion brands from all around the world many Chinese labels and designers also displayed their beautiful works. This is very inspiring as new patterns and styles are used with lots of East Asian elements which are interpreted in a very new way. This is how Shanghai and its Chinese designers emancipate themselves, as in the beginning the only aim of the fashion week was to test Western brands on the Chinese or Asian market.

Things chaged now and for the first time the focus is especially on Asian women, as Harris Chan Pak-hei states:

„We want to show that we understand Asian women, their bodies, and mentalities, and they can trust and connect with our clothing.“

Haizhen Wang is one of those labels and that’s why we want to share our experiences with you. Here you can see our impressions from the AW 2017 Collection:

The collection is described as a combination of Victorian shapes and contemporary style, oversized volumes and reinvented uses of fabrics definition. Further braided cords and floral prints are featured as embellishments on garnets. All in all it was a very interesting experience. We can’t wait for the SS 2018 collection to arrive and look forward to the next Shanghai Fashion Week event!

„It’s time we promote the idea that Made In China is beautiful. Made In China should be a source of pride. This is starting to happen on the surface because now everyone wants to enter the market here. But I think there is still a respect that is lacking. The West can see the Chinese market as a kind of big, fast black hole – I think it’s going to take time to get rid of this view.“ Philipp Lim
